Moriel Rothman-Zecher is an American-Israeli writer, poet, and novelist. Born in Jerusalem and raised in Ohio, Rothman-Zecher returned to his birthplace in 2011 and has been involved with several groups working to end the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian Territories. From this experience comes his debut novel, Sadness Is a White Bird, which follows a young man preparing to serve in the Israeli army. The book received advance praise from renowned authors Geraldine Brooks and Michael Chabon and earned a starred review from Kirkus, which called it “a passionate, poetic coming-of-age story.”
